Abby Scales is a local athlete representing Great Britain in the Age Group Sprint Duathlon Team. She competes in the sprint distance category. A duathlon usually comprises a run, bike, run format. The second run phase will typically be half the distance of the first. So a sprint distance duathlon may involve a 5km run, followed by a 20km bike ride, followed by another 2.5km run.
Peak Ascent Cycles have agreed to support Abby by providing discounted bicycle servicing and parts, and also free water bottles. Abby’s qualification for the 2020 World Duathlon Championships in Amsterdam has been rescheduled to take place this year. Here is what Abby had to say:
My name is Abby Scales, I originally come from the flat lands of North Lincolnshire, but moved to the Peaks in 2018 after college.
I represent Great Britain in the Age Group Sprint Duathlon Team. I have been to 4 European Championships and for 2021 I have qualified for the World and European Championships. These events take me to some amazing places and allow me to compete against the best.
To date my proudest achievement has to be, being selected to represent Great Britain at the European Age Group Duathlon in 2017, I had only competed at 3 duathlons and I was only 17.
The following list is a resume of Abby’s racing over the past couple of years:
- European Duathlon Championships – Soria Spain 2017 – 6th place
- European Duathlon Championships – Ibiza 2018 – 8th place
- European Duathlon Championships – Romania 2019 – 4th place
- European Duathlon Championships – Huelva Spain – 2020 6th place
I have qualified for 2020 World Duathlon Championships – Almere Amsterdam (this will now be 2021).
I am qualified for the 2021 European Champs and will be starting qualification races for the 2022 world champs (Australia) early in 2021.
